| | | | | | | | | | Random interval and order port scanning ensures us that the required services and applications
are responding correctly. It also locates any discrepancies between expected configuration
and actual configuration. And finally, if malicious code or users are able to obtain access,
we can detect their presence by locating the extra open port.
We monitor ports at the protocol level. For instance, we do not simply make sure the FTP
server is accepting connections, our monitoring system actually logs into the FTP server
and performs some simple tasks. This monitoring is performed by two separate machines.
The first is part of the Kansas City network, providing a local point of view. The second
is at our Mobile, Alabama location, and provides an Internet point of view.
